I am glad I met her. She was just normal, loved to smile and cheer people up, outgoing and nice. Each person has a story to tell. Well, this is Her story. Simple, yet thought provoking.
I knew her parents; they were well educated, successful and extremely hard working. As family, the parents, I am sure, made a lot of sacrifices in their careers, to give their children the best they could. This family was normal, And happy.
The other day I met her at an Indian restaurant, doing menial jobs, most people, who are well off would not bother to do. Not knowing how to react, I just left the place after lunch. After a couple of months, the next time I met her, I could not stop myself from asking why she was doing such trivial chores when she could get a much better part time job, if she needed to. "I hate this job, but my parents want me to do it. ", she said. Surprised, I had to know why. She continued, " Dad says he wanted me to know what life would have been if I didn’t get an education. And also respect each one who here who do these."
I was silent. After I bid good bye, I kept thinking of what she said. Her parents were right.
Mark Twain once said, "Never let your schooling get in the way of your education.” How perfect.
Give it a thought.
1: Each one of us here, we have had such wonderful schooling, but do we know what education of life means?
2: We all are unique. But, schooling (education) and its competitive world wants to make us the same. Won’t you agree?
Do let me know your thoughts on this!

This is ultimate!
Good job, I agree to what you say. Education from life's daily events is diff from academia oriented education.

@abhi : Thank you!
@ Anonymous 1: Absol, thats the lesson learnt!
@ Anonymous 2: Well, you obviously did not read the entire sentence. I said, "doing menial jobs, most people, who are well off would not bother to do." In this, I meant, I did not expect her to do this kind-of job, it came as a surprise on the person she is.
Realy thought provoking !!
We should thank all parents who make sure their children get not only good schooling but also the right lessons. That'll sure help in the long run.
Good blog Preethi.. I agree when u say education of life is important..
@Anonymous2:Any reason why u are 'anonymous'? If you are critisicing, why not criticise openly rather than being 'anonymous'. Does it mean, you are not confident of your opinions?
@ Sreeja : Thank you! We are indebted towards our parents for their teaching!
@ prash: Thanks Prashanth!
