June 27, 2008: a familiar name came on the headlines: Sam Bahadur Manekshaw passed away. I google-ed more to know about Sam and I felt proud that
Sam Manekshaw was an India Military Officer to hold the highest rank in the army as the Field Marshall. He led the Indian army towards victory in the Indo- Pakistan war in 1971. He was conferred the Padma Vibhushan in 1972 for his unbound service to the country. Sadly, he passed away on June 27, 2008.
While I felt so honored by such fearless men the country had, who gave all the time in their life to safeguard the country, it was really sad to see that other "powerful" men, including the prime minister, the defense minister or the commander did not attended the funeral to pay their last respects to this great person. While the PM is busy negotiating his position on the Nuke deal, I wonder what made the other top ranked officials not attend this homage.
No time? Whatever.
Sad. Isnt it?
